Fleeing A Country Seeking A New Life

by Carl Kegerreis

Author Carl Kegerreis is no stranger to writing. After signing a copy of his book, “Tibby and His Friend’s Big Secret,” to a friend’s daughter, the friend Ibrahim Mahmoud (Abe) approached him a few weeks later for a request. The request? Write a book about his family’s story.

“Fleeing A Country Seeking A New Life” recalls the tales of two business owners in Sylvania, Ohio. Both Ibrahim Mahmoud (Abe) and Mohamed Joseph (Mike) are two immigrants who have left their country, Lebanon, to search for greener pastures.

Throughout the book, both men recall their family histories to the author. As we read through the pages, we learn of their family history, childhood, and unique experiences as they become naturalized citizens of the United States of America.

The author does a great job of conveying the unique experiences of these two men with sensitivity and brevity.

The struggles of immigrants are unique in themselves. Nevertheless, they all share the same underlying goal: To build better lives for their future families.

The book covers several essential themes. From honoring one’s family to thanking God for the little miracles, we experience in our daily lives. Both Ibrahim Mahmoud and Mohamed Joseph have achieved the American dream that so many have struggled to reach their entire lives. Their grace, humility, and hardworking characteristics are admirable, and it was a great pleasure to see them grow their legacy in the United States.

Overall, the book is an inspiring read. The author makes it a great point to include photos, newspaper clippings, and additional commentary. Reading through this book, you can’t help but feel wholly inspired as these men continuously praise the blessings they receive daily. Something as simple as being able to use a modern-day amenity is just as miraculous as starting fresh in a new country. If you wish to learn how to be grateful, this book does a great job of teaching you to do just that.
