Author Nicholas Sampson offers a vividly imaginative tale on this essential question in his book, “Imagine This,” where this question plays a crucial role in the entire read:
“Imagine if you could do or be anything in the world, could you tell me what it would it be?”
As parents or teachers read this question aloud, several children provide answers on where their imagination would take them. Some of these answers range from whimsical to ambitious, like turning their bed into ice cream or exploring the vastness of outer space. The author showcases the power of imagination and how it can take us to places we’ve never been through before.
Illustrated by Nidhom, several pages of the book include colorful drawings of children from all backgrounds. With a fun, fantastic, and pleasing aesthetic, children will indeed engage with this eye-catching book without fail.
Despite its brief content, the book is full of wisdom on why imagination is essential. Some quotes particularly stood out to me. Some of them are: “Your imagination is the food that feeds your dreams,” and “If you can imagine it and are willing to work hard towards it, there is nothing in this world you can’t achieve.”
Both of these quotes struck a chord with me because it doesn’t only apply to children but to adults as well. After all, many technological advancements didn’t come from thin air—they were a byproduct of human ingenuity and imagination.
I highly recommend this book to parents and teachers who wish to nurture creative individuals. As an added tip, consider reading this question aloud to the kids and ask them what they would do if they could be anything or do anything in the world. Listen to their answers closely and see where their imagination would take them. I assure you, it’s worth the listen.
